Here's what you need to know about the route planning module

During the past couple of years, we've seen an increased focus on creating efficient and profitable routes that are realistic for drivers to carry out.

With that in mind, we wanted to create a new Planning tool that gives our users increased flexibility when planning routes. We wanted to provide an improved overview and insights into the routes and their efficiency - all while reducing the time spent.

Some things have changed in terms of design and functionality, but we wanted a similar planning process to ensure a smooth transition. We're absolutely certain that you won't have any problems wrapping your head around the new Planning as well.

New functionality ✨

Some of the features are categorised as “Premium” features and are available at an extra cost. During the first couple of months, it will be accessible for all customers and for you to try.

Timeline

We have introduced a timeline component to make the route result more visual. You’ll be able to see all stops plotted on a timeline. This will help identify driving time, service time and see where breaks are planned. When selecting one or multiple routes on the timeline, it’ll also interact with the map and show the stops.

Versioning 💎

We often hear about customers being stuck trying to analyse the route result and deciding whether it’s a “good” route or not. Let’s end the guesswork with versioning. Create multiple versions of the same batch, compare the results between each version, and decide which version you wish to approve.

Templates 🔜

You can create reusable templates for batches. Prepare the batch, configure your settings such as service time and vehicle availability, and create a batch with the click of a button. This will save time and speed up the route planning process.

Scheduled routing 💎 🔜

Another way of saving time is to schedule the route optimisation. Assign a template and select when you want the automation to run and for what delivery days. This allows you to automate your route planning - all you need to do is to log in and publish the batch.

Move stops

The ability to move stops has also been a very requested functionality over the past year. This will give users more flexibility in the route planning process - to adjust and make final tweaks to the routes. An MVP is live with basic functionality to move stops within the route and to reverse stop sequence.

How to use Planning 🚚

We've created a video walkthrough of the new Planning module, its core functionality, and also showcasing some specific use cases. The video is available in English and Swedish.

FAQ 🙋

Will both old and new Planning work at the same time?

Both will run concurrently during a transition phase. Our goal is to remove the old Planning during Q1 2025. It’s important to note that these are two separate parts of the platform working independently from each other. This means that once you’ve created a batch in one of them, it’ll not be available in the other.

Can I use my presets that I created in the old Planning?

Yes. Your presets will work on both the old and new Planning. We have changed the capacity settings, but there shouldn't be any breaking changes. Please reach out to us if you're experience any issues and we'll have a look at it.

When will I be able to move stops in Planning?

The functionality to move stops is a highly requested feature among our customers. We’ve released an MVP, which means it contains the core features, but there's more development to be done. Just like all other features, there will be room for continuous improvement and we’re happy to receive your feedback on the matter as well.

What's next?

Moving forward, we’ve split the development into three different areas: bugs and feedback, new development, and continued development.

Bugs and feedback is quite self-explanatory. New development includes brand-new functionality, like “Move stops”. Continued development is referring to improvements of existing features. Examples of this includes:

  • Handling partial matches and missing coordinates,

  • Using multiple capacity types such as weight AND number of items,

  • Service time based on specific order properties.

Feedback 📩

New Planning is very much a work in progress for the coming months. We're looking to add even more functionality and are excited to hear your experience using the tool.

Would you like to change some parts? Do you have ideas for other ways of working or new functionality? Please reach out to our development team.
