Setting up, and automatically sending, text messages in our platform is easy. Often, each event status is calculated and billed as one message, but that's not always the case. Depending on the content of the message, it can be counted as multiple text messages.
We always show an estimate of the number of text messages required as well as the current character count. This is how we calculate the length of our text messages.
160 characters (GSM characters) and 70 (UCS-2 characters). Anything below the limit counts as one text message.
Note: When using our delivery service, Gordon will create and activate relevant SMS events for you. We have put together a best practice based on our own experience of information end customers need and at what point.
Long text messages
Gordon splits longer SMS messages into separate SMS message segments and then reassembles them on delivery, which means that your SMS messages have a character limit of 153 (GSM) and 67 (UCS-2).
Functions and dynamic content
Please keep in mind that the use of functions could impact the number of text messages and require more than one text message, especially if you're close to the limit.
Here are two examples:
#customer_name
Dan - 3 characters
Christopher - 11 characters
#external_ref
0394 - 4 characters
SE_0238-F8BL92 - 14 characters
